Become an Affiliate

If you’re starting a new school or would like to affiliate your school with Empel Academy, you’ll find all the information you need here

Our Process

Affiliation is an ongoing process, not a permanent status. Based on very specific standards, an institution conducts a comprehensive self-study and evaluation, and undergoes a rigorous peer review process. The steps outlined below typically take 6 to 9 months from initial contact to affiliation. Affiliated schools are committed to the twelve principles of our Methodologia Aurea – Golden Methodology – in all areas of the institution.

Initial Interest

Before starting the process, the school wishing to become a candidate for affiliation must be familiar with and adopt our 12 methodological principles.

Application

The process begins with the Application for Affiliation form, which provides pertinent information about the interested school for the development of the process.

The Meeting

After reviewing the application, the Empel Academy Committee will determine if the school is ready for a meeting and will provide a report on areas for attention and a timeline for affiliation.

Candidacy

After the interested school has accepted the recommendations, the report on areas for attention and the timeline, a formal offer of candidacy may be extended to the institution.

Self-Study

Empel Academy offers a personalized protocol that includes a review of the institution’s foundational documents, our 12 methodological principles, and the development of a plan for improvement. The self-study process typically takes between 3 and 5 months.

Team Visit

The institution will host a 3-4 day visit by a team of peer reviewers from Empel Academy or other affiliated institutions. The team will validate the results of the institution’s self-study and make recommendations for improvement in relation to our 12 methodological principles.

Decisions

Empel Academy has a multi-level review process for all team reports to ensure consistency, objectivity and quality. The decision is final and, if negative, disqualifying for 5 years. Decisions are made in April for visits that took place in the fall, or in October for visits that took place in the spring.

Affiliation Terms

Membership cannot be for less than 12 years, except in the case of unilateral termination or withdrawal of status for serious misconduct. Institutions are expected to adhere to our standards, conduct annual reviews of their plan, and comply with related reports and verification visits.
